The Ninja Star Snail (Astraea phoebia) is one of the most efficient and reef-safe algae grazers you can add to a saltwater system. Named for its dark, ridged, star-shaped shell with sharp protruding points like a thrown shuriken, this hardy snail spends its days methodically grazing every surface in the tank — glass, rocks, and equipment alike. Astraea snails are particularly effective at controlling green film algae, diatoms, and cyanobacteria — the early-stage nuisance algae that plagues new and established tanks alike. Their compact size makes them perfect for getting into tight spots between rockwork that larger snails can't reach. Completely reef-safe, peaceful, and one of the most recommended algae-eating snails in the hobby. Suggested at 1 snail per 5-10 gallons for established reef systems. Care tip: Astraea snails have difficulty righting themselves when flipped onto their backs. Keep an eye out and flip any upside-down snails back over to prevent loss. At Ocean To You, every invertebrate is inspected and acclimated before sale. We don't sell sick livestock.
