Celadon incense burners are popular for their simple, rounded shape. Celadon is a type of porcelain with a bluish ash glaze. Long ago, a Chinese emperor laboriously created it arti ficially in order to enjoy the flavor of jade through porcelain. In Japan, celadon ore was discovered in what is now Okawauchiyama, Imari City, during the Edo period, and it continues to be fired today as Nabeshima celadon. Although it is generally called celadon, there are many different colors, from nearly white to greenish.
