Araucaria heterophylla Tropical tree with soft, needle-like foliage, resembling a spruce or hemlock. An ancient species found in nature only on a small island in the Pacific. Makes a lovely holiday plant, and can be kept indoors year-round as a permanent houseplant. Pet-friendly! Care: Light: Bright, with some direct sun (east or west window). May scorch if exposed to hot afternoon sun. Water: Allow the top 30% of soil to dry between watering. Avoid overwatering, or allowing the soil to remain dry for extended periods. Do not allow to sit in water. Fertilizer: Use an all-purpose fertilizer such as Schultz Indoor Plant Food (10-15-10) once or twice monthly. Other tips: Avoid placing near drafts or heat registers; foliage will brown if exposed to very dry air. Mist frequently or use a humidifier if necessary. Grows best in an undersized pot.
