The Norkent Apple may be one of the best-tasting Prairie Hardy apples that we can grow! It is a mildly sweet, crisp, aromatic apple with a pleasant apple/pear flavour. It is excell ent for fresh eating as well as cooking and juicing. A yellow-green apple that blushes red when ripening. Fruits average 7 to 8 cm (3") in diameter and mature around mid-September. The apples can keep up to three months in cold storage, but it is known to lose flavour as it ages. It is a precocious (early-bearing) apple and can start fruiting as young as three years old. The Norkent Apple originated at the Morden Research Station and was sent out with the Prairie Fruit Breeding Cooperative. Eventually, it made its home at the University of Alberta, Edmonton.
