January 27, 2023 LuckyMe 1xLP The ridiculously consistent Los Angeles producer Nosaj Thing has returned from a five year hiatus with a guest-packed journey through different styles and tones while keeping his own unique stamp on display on Continua. It can be hard to tell if Nosaj Thing or his guests are leading the way on the album, with songs like the opening track taking an assist from/composer Duval Timothy and sounding familiar to the piano-led ambient soundscapes that are his signature. Other tracks can move his collaborators into a different direction than what you would usually expect, like the moody, spoken word “Condition” which makes Toro Y Moi sound like a shoe-in for Lil Peep and “All Over” which brings a much darker vibe to the usually sunny vocals you would hear from Panda Bear. Continua is a great electronic album for anyone looking to have their expectation fulfilled and subverted at the same time.
