Artist Statement 'Not Here' is a visual exploration of seasonal longing and the allure of an imagined winter. Conceived during the peak of an Australian summer, the work documents a mental migration toward the cold. It is a daydream of a friend’s remote château, the beauty of snow laden trees and the crisp clarity of alpine air. This piece is less about escaping the present and more about the pursuit of a different place. It imagines the transition from the salt and heat of the coast to the muffled stillness of a northern snow season. The composition focuses on the sensory details of this other season such as the sharp intake of sub zero air and the architectural beauty of a landscape dusted with frost. It captures the joyous anticipation of a trip yet to be taken where the mind travels ahead of the body to scout for both calm and adventure. Through a palette of muted whites and deep and cool shadows, 'Not Here' invites the viewer into a curated winter.
