Track Rod End - Cross Rod Eye is the ball-jointed eye end of the steering cross rod, in the steering linkage. It screws into the end of the cross rod tube and locates in the tapere d bore of the steering arm on the swivel housing, transmitting steering movement across the axle. Because the shank is threaded, the effective rod length is adjustable - front wheel tracking must be checked and reset after fitting. This is the right-hand-drive linkage specification. The ball joint is a wearing part. A split or perished boot lets water and grit into the joint, and the resulting play shows up as steering wander, knocking over rough ground and uneven tyre wear.
