The Exposition Universelle drew great crowds, Hemingway and Kandinsky settled there, Proust wrote � la Recherche. .. and Cocteau La Machine infernale, Diaghilev's Ballets Russes revolutionised dance, and Debussy, Satie and Stravinsky caused scandal.
