Laurel’s husband Bob insists that Laurel and their three little boys move from Boston to the wealthy, isolated town of Northington, despite the fact that they can barely afford a home in the exclusive suburb on his construction worker’s salary. Laurel struggles to fit in with the local women, who are all far more affluent than she, and the boys have varying levels of success at finding playmates in such a rural town. As the situation drags on, Bob and Laurel’s relationship becomes even more miserable and contentious, and Laurel begins to lose hope of ever getting out of Northington.
