Right. This one’s for the numbers. You know those milestone birthdays – 18th, 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th – where the number itself is the star. You don’t need a castle or a unicorn. You just want a giant “30” or “50” that everyone can see and say “wow, that’s a big one”. That’s a numerical cake. A cake shaped like a number. Any number you want. Someone asked me a while back: “can you make a cake shaped like a 40 for my husband’s 40th? He loves chocolate, and I want the number to be really clear.” I said yeah, course. I baked two rectangular cakes, carved them into a “4” and a “0”, covered them in chocolate buttercream, and piped “Happy 40th” on the side. He laughed and said “I can’t avoid the number now.” That’s a win. So here it is: Numerical Cake – available at our Bromley bakery. It’s a number‑shaped cake (any number from 0 to 9, or multiple numbers like 10, 21, 30, 40, 50, 100, etc.). Feeds 6–20 people depending on the size and how many numbers you have. Perfect for a milestone birthday, anniversary, graduation, retirement, or any time you want to shout the age from the rooftops (with cake). What’s in it? Sponge – vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, lemon, or carrot. Your choice. You can even have different flavours for each number. Frosting – buttercream in any colour you want. Match the party theme, or go classic white, gold, or silver. The number shape – I bake rectangular cakes, then carve them into the number(s) you need. A single number (like “5”) or double digits (“21”, “30”, “50”) – each number is a separate piece of cake. The details – smooth or swirled buttercream, a simple drip, sprinkles, or a piped message like “Happy 50th”. You can also add a few flowers or stars. The look – bold, clear, and impossible to miss. The number is the design. It’s the cake that leaves no doubt about the age. And it’s surprisingly easy to serve – just cut each number into slices. Who buys this? Milestone birthday cake – 18th, 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th, 100th. Anniversary cake – 10th, 25th, 50th – the numbers look lovely in gold. Graduation cake – the year they graduate (2024, 2025, etc.) or just “21” for a 21st. Retirement cake – the age they retire, or just “65”. Kids birthday – “1” for a first birthday, “2” for a second, etc. Just because – you want a cake that literally spells out the celebration. Honestly? Anyone who wants a cake that’s all about the number. Can I get any number? Yes. 0 to 9, and any combination – 10, 11, 12, 13… up to 100 or more. Keep in mind that each number is a separate piece of cake, so for “100” you’d have three pieces (1, 0, 0) – that’s a lot of cake! Can I get a different colour or finish? Yes. Gold drip, rainbow swirl, naked buttercream, or a smooth glossy finish. Just tell me. Can I add a message or name? Course. “Happy 30th”, “Leo’s 50th”, “Finally 18” – I’ll pipe it on the side or on a little plaque. How much notice? At least a week for numerical cakes – carving takes time. One thing to mention… The numbers are carved by hand – they won’t be perfect factory shapes, but you’ll definitely recognise the number. Also, for double digits like “21”, the two numbers are separate – you can arrange them close together or leave a gap. Your call. Right.
