Nymphaea lotus (tiger lotus) is one of the most visually striking aquarium bulb plants, producing large, broad leaves with distinctive colouration ranging from green with dark mottling to deep red or purple depending on the variety. This version is supplied with leaves already in active growth — you can see the plant's colouration before it arrives and it establishes in the aquarium more readily than a dormant bulb.It grows in medium light without CO2 injection and does best in a nutrient-rich substrate. Nymphaea lotus is a vigorous grower — regular removal of floating surface leaves channels the plant's energy into submerged growth and keeps it in proportion with the rest of the tank. With management it produces spectacular results as a bold background plant.Plant in substrate leaving the top third of the bulb exposed above the surface. The plant is supplied in active growth and should establish quickly. Trim surface leaves to control the spread and maintain a submerged display. Suited to aquariums of 100 litres and above as a focal point background plant.
