ERC8849 is the small O-ring fitted to the camshaft retaining plate on Land Rover's 2.5 diesel family of engines, including the naturally aspirated, turbo diesel, and 200Tdi variants. It seals the retaining plate against oil leakage at the front of the engine block, where the camshaft is located axially. A deteriorated or incorrectly sized O-ring at this point will result in external oil seepage, and on 200Tdi engines in particular, this area is a known source of minor but progressive oil loss if the seal is not replaced during any camshaft or timing work.
