Oakley was founded in 1975 by avid motocross fan Jim Jannard who named the brand after his pet dog ‘Oakley Anne’. He started out by producing motorcycle grips constructed from a unique rubber material that he had created called ‘Unobtainium’, which offered a far better grip in wet conditions than any grips around at the time. It wasn’t until 1984 that Oakley made their move into the eyewear market, which they would go on to completely revolutionise. During the 90s they decided to transfer their innovative expertise into the clothing market. The ‘Nitro Fuel’ label specialised in producing skiwear with unique technical designs, further cementing Oakley’s position as a leader of innovation. This particular jacket from the Nitro Fuel line is constructed from Oakley’s waterproof Nylon material with a wickable mesh interior lining and polar fleece panels for warmth. The branded frontal zip system takes inspiration from the early Final Home survival pieces and opens up to reveal 2 hand pockets, 2 chest pockets and 2 mesh vents by the shoulders for improved breathability. It also features a button-secured hood that can be completely concealed between the mesh lining and the outer shell, via the collar. A concealed interior pocket allows for extra storage and has a headphone feed-through system for music players. There are features that make this jacket perfect for the slopes as well as the city, such as a retractable ski pass pocket on the interior, elasticated interior cuffs and a powder skirt.
