Oasis May 1994 Jodrell Bank, Cheshire Artwork Title: Oasis – Jodrell Bank – Contact Sheet 49A I've always liked contact sheets because they reveal everything that normally stays hidden. Every slight shift in expression, every adjustment in position and every frame leading up to the photograph that eventually gets chosen. This roll was photographed for Creation Records during an all-day shoot in May 1994. The idea of using the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank as a backdrop actually came from Noel Gallagher, and it proved to be an inspired choice. The huge dish gave the photographs a strong sense of scale and helped create one of the most recognisable sets of early Oasis publicity images. The pink chinagraph mark identifies the frame I selected for printing at the time. Before digital editing, this was simply part of the process: studying contact sheets with a loupe, marking the chosen frame by hand and sending it off to the darkroom. Looking back at the sheet now, I enjoy seeing the tiny changes between each frame and being reminded that even photographs which become very familiar often emerge from a long sequence of almost imperceptible decisions. ---------------------------------------------------------------- All prints are produced on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Giclée paper.
