Albino Red Empress Protomelas taeniolatus Albino Red Empress is a line-bred albino form of the Red Empress group selected for pale albino contrast and eventual red display in mature dominant males. Young males may not show full intensity right away, but they can become impressive centerpiece haps with age. Origin and Habitat Native Region: Aquarium line-bred strain from Lake Malawi Red Empress stock. Natural Habitat: Sediment-free rocky habitat in the wild form; aquariums should provide open water with rock structure. Physical Characteristics Size: 8-9 inches. Coloration: Albino body with red-empress color potential; mature dominant males show the strongest red and contrast. Body Shape: Large, laterally compressed hap body with an active swimming style. Behavior and Temperament Temperament: Mildly aggressive. Social Behavior: Best with similar-size peacocks and haps in spacious aquariums. Aquarium Care Tank Size: A 75 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended. Water Parameters: 74-84°F, pH 7.4-8.4, hard water. Tank Setup: Use sand, open swimming room, rockwork for cover and sight breaks, and strong filtration.
