Grape: Nero d'AvolaVintage: 2020Type: Red Farmed organically in the hills of Vittoria, this red wine is made from hand-harvested Nero d'Avola grapes. Winemaker Arianna Occhipinti utilizes traditional, low-intervention methods to emphasize the elegant side of a variety often prone to heavy extraction. Spontaneous fermentation occurs with native wild yeasts on the skins for twenty-five days in unlined concrete tanks. It ages for twenty-two months in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks to build structural harmony while completely avoiding dominant wood flavors. It pours a deep ruby color, opening with expressive aromas of blackberry, black plum, and wild Mediterranean scrubland. A medium-bodied frame balances ripe dark fruit flavors with a firm, chalky tannin profile. Savory undertones of dried herbs, leather, and a distinct mineral salinity cut right through mid-palate volume. A vibrant, limestone-driven acidity keeps the texture light on its feet and completely fresh. It finishes long and dry, leaving a clean, savory impression of crushed stone.
