This piece comes from memories of swimming as a kid in Far North NSW. I spent long summer days in the water, opening my eyes underwater and trying to find small treasures on the bottom- shells, stones, bits of colour catching the light. Everything looked different down there. Shapes blurred, edges softened, and the water distorted what I was seeing. Nothing was sharp or certain, but it all felt calm. That distortion is what this painting is built around. The layered blues and greens, the floating forms, and the lack of a fixed focal point reflect how the world looks and feels when you’re submerged. Your eye moves through the work the same way, slowly, adjusting, noticing things gradually rather than all at once. The painting isn’t about a specific scene, but about that sensation of being in warm water, time stretching out, and being playfully present in the moment. Each original artwork is one-of-a-kind and created in my Melbourne studio. The piece will be carefully packaged in a custom double-walled box to ensure safe delivery.
