Hammered metalwork is one of the oldest fabrication techniques in existence — bronze vessels shaped by hand have been found in Egyptian tombs, Persian palaces, and the markets of m edieval Isfahan, the indentations left by each strike becoming the surface itself rather than being smoothed away. This vase continues that tradition in iron: the ochre finish applied over a form that has been worked by hand, each facet catching the light at a slightly different angle.
