Oculina is a coral found in the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Bermuda. The bark inclusion of this cottonwood piece is so reminiscent of a coral reef, therefore an underwater na me seemed only fitting. As cottonwood burl in itself is a natural phenomenon, each piece in the ‘Cottonwood Series’ focuses on the wonders of the natural world - highlighting the biodiversity of earth and the lesser explored flora, fungi and the truly remarkable ecosystems within it.
