The ODEO SOS is certified to meet Department of Transport Boating requirements which means it can be used (with the provided distress flag) instead of pyrotechnic flares in Tasmania, and Western Australia The ODEO SOS is a high-intensity strobe light providing a high-intensity internationally recognized SOS morse signal. The ODEO SOS lasts up to 9 hours further increasing chances of rescue and survival. Meeting the USCG requirements of 46 CFR 161.013 the ODEO SOS is approved as a nighttime visual distress signal. With the orange distress flag provided, which meets the requirements of 46 CFR 160.072 the daytime visual distress signal requirements are also met (for carriage and approval of day and night distress signals. The unit is waterproof to 5m and has been tested to IP68. The design of the ODEO SOS ensures that the visual signal can be seen both by surface rescue craft and aircraft flying overhead.
