The OH no wall clock is a collaboration between Paulin and the San Jose type foundry, OH no. Our classic cork and aluminium wall clock features a nickel-plated handset with sweeping seconds, and bespoke typography and dial design by OH no. This is our second collaboration with the foundry, following the overwhelmingly positive response to the OH no Modul. The clock dial is a progression of the Modul design and features an expressive free-form layout referencing California’s colourful design history. Soft torn edges hark back to the analogue processes of Sister Corita Kent and Saul Bass, and the colourful layered design playfully tests the limits of legibility. To celebrate the overlaid nature of the design, we chose to use four layers of screen printing with differing levels of opacity. The dials were printed in Glasgow by Matthew Rich of M.A.R.S Studio and are part of a limited run of dials. You can read more about OH no and the design process here.
