Wood is porous so when you rub a drop or two of an essential oil onto the beads, they absorbs the oil and holds the scent for about 24 hours. You'll visibly see the beads get darker as they absorb the oil. As the day goes on the wood beads will visibly get lighter, meaning the oil is evaporating.
