Eulogy For Evolution is the 2007 debut album of Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Olafur Arnalds, and one of the first releases of the now well established contemporary classical lab el Erased Tapes. Its musical conception emerged from the death of Arnalds’ uncle and the birth of his uncle’s grandson: with its deeply emotional melodies, Eulogy For Evolution is an attempt at a depiction of the cycle of life. Arnalds’ powerful, dynamic string and piano arrangements progress to glowering post-rock avalanches over the course of the album. The intimate production adds to the immediate touching effect of its minor harmonies.
