The Ontario curriculum emphasizes the importance of reading and writing skills across all subjects and in everyday life, preparing students for the literacy demands of post-secondary education and beyond. Demonstrating proficiency in these skills is a graduation requirement, ensuring that students have the essential reading and writing abilities needed to succeed in school, work, and daily life. The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC) is a full-credit Grade 12 Englishcourse designed to help students strengthen essential reading and writing skills. Focusing on the literacy competencies assessed by the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), the course provides targeted support to ensure students are prepared for success in school, the workplace, and everyday life.
