Olea europea 'Arbequina' is a self-fruiting olive prized for its dark brown fruit with highly aromatic oil content and attractive, silvery green foliage. Like alot of citrus type o f plants, this olive tree produces abundantly in hot dry climates, and has shown increased hardiness over other varieties in zones 8-11. We treat this as a houseplant here in Chattanooga although we have just recently been re-zoned as zone 8 from 7. This fruit tree grows well in containers indoors. Outdoors, it may be planted in pots and brought inside for the winter, or it may be planted in the ground in temperate climates.
