This intensive one-day workshop with Robin Shelton covers an introduction to camera-handling basics, shooting a roll of film on-location, learning how to develop your film and make a contact-sheet of images. Beginning with a short session on the theory of cameras, lenses and film we will then spend a couple of hours putting that theory into practice whilst discussing the technicalities of composition, exposure and depth-of-field as well as talking about developing the sometimes elusive photographic 'eye'. The afternoon darkroom session will begin with an introduction to the space and a discussion of relevant health and safety issues. After this, we will develop, fix and dry the morning's films and learn how to find the correct exposure for the all-important 'contact sheet' so that you will be able to see the results of your efforts in black and white! If you have your own 35mm SLR camera then please bring it along, otherwise one can be provided. All other materials, including film and paper are included. This course runs on a maximum of a 1:3 tutor/student ratio, meaning that you will receive plenty of input during the day whilst also ensuring that we don't bump into each other in the darkroom!
