Inside, it has whi te flesh, with red/purple rings. The weight of the onions produced is usually 100g to 130g per onion. It can be eaten straight away, or stored after harvesting. Seed Origin: Austria Sowing: March to May Harvesting: August to September How To Grow Red Onion From Seed: Prepare shallow drills to sow your onion seed directly into. Leave a spacing of 30cm between the drills. Sow the seeds thinly, and cover lightly with soil. When the seedlings establish to roughly 5cm in height, thin them to leave the strongest plant every 10cm. Mulching around the plants will help to keep moisture in, and also reduce weeds. Remove mulch when the onion bulbs have developed, to expose them to the sun. When the leaves start to die off in late Summer/Autumn, your onions should be harvested for storage.
