The Open Colorimeter Plus is the latest version of the Open Colorimeter variants specifically for fluorescence measurements. The Open Colorimeter Plus measures light from a sample under excitation by UV, visible or IR light. This is a portable, stand-alone instrument. The Open Colorimeter Plus uses a TSL2591 light sensor (the same light sensor used in the standard Open Colorimeter) placed at a right-angle (90°) to the excitation LED. A PyBadge is pre-programmed with open source CircuitPython firmware. Light detected by the 90° measurement sensor is viewed as counts, irradiance (µW/cm²) or relative (normalized) fluorescence units. A second TSL2591 light sensor at 180° can be used to calibrate/normalize measurements to the excitation LED intensity. The Open Colorimeter Plus design works with standard 0.2 mL PCR-type tubes though a cuvette-version is also available. The Open Colorimeter Plus enclosure is made from 3D-printed black resin. An electronics cover is 3D-printed from black PFA filament. This cover is easily removable so you can easily change out the excitation LED and/or insert emission filters.
