Opoponax is the resin from Commiphora erythrea or C. guidotti, often referred to in magical texts and also spoken of as Sweet Myrrh. A chunky resin incense, it dates back to the practices of ancient civilisations, and is similar to Myrrh in its composition and fragrance. It is quite calming, with a sweet, earthy fragrance, which is great for meditation and working involving the ancestors. Many attribute this resin to the element of water and the planets Mars, the Moon, and Pluto. The particular properties of Opoponax make it well suited for meditation, divination work, ancestor work, and for use when dealing with the forces of the Underworld.
