The hall first opened its doors on December 14, 1904, with a dedicatory concert led by Theodore Thomas, the Orchestra's founder and first music director. Since then, the stage has been graced by the greatest names in classical music and jazz and continues to be a staple of the Chicago classical music scene today. He is best known for his Chicago Neighborhoods project, which initially began in 2011 with creating logos for over 100 of the city’s neighborhoods and eventually led to a series of WPA-inspired “Neighborhood Tourism” print series. He has immortalized many Chicago landmarks, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Buckingham Fountain, Cultural Center and, now, Orchestra Hall.
