The Oregon Spring tomato is an heirloom variety renowned for its early production and superior tolerance to cold temperatures. Developed from a cross involving an early maturing, p arthenocarpic tomato from Russia, the Oregon Spring boasts the ability to set fruit when temperatures are too low for pollination to occur. This quality makes them well suited for cool, short-season climates and for use in high tunnels and greenhouses where cool nighttime temps sometimes inhibit fruit set. What's more, tomatoes set under these conditions will be predominantly seedless, a welcomed quality for those who dislike seeds or don't tolerate them well. Oregon Spring produces small to medium tomatoes weighing up to 6 ounces each. The juicy, red fruit have mild, classic tomato flavor that is quite good for an early variety.
