Cleavers Size: 4oz bag Cleavers (Galium aparine) grow in wet areas of Britain, Europe, Asia, and North America. Small prickles grow on the leaves of cleavers, causing it to have a sticky feeling and giving it its name. The leaves and flowers of cleavers are used medicinally. Cleavers is one of numerous plants considered in ancient times to act as a diuretic. It was therefore used to relieve edema and to promote urine formation during bladder infections. It has also been used by people with lymph swellings, jaundice, and wounds Other Benefits of Cleavers 1. Immune System Support Cleavers (Galium aparine) is believed to enhance the immune system’s function. It may boost the production of lymphocytes, which are crucial white blood cells involved in the body’s defense against infections and diseases, including cancer. This immunomodulatory effect suggests that cleavers could play a role in supporting the body’s natural defenses against pre-cancerous cells. 2. Anti-Inflammatory Properties The herb is thought to possess anti-inflammatory effects, making it potentially beneficial for conditions exacerbated by inflammation, such as psoriasis and eczema. Although no major studies currently support its efficacy specifically for these skin conditions, its anti-inflammatory properties suggest it may help reduce flare-ups. 3. Diuretic Effects Cleavers has diuretic properties that promote the elimination of excess fluid from the body. This can be particularly useful for reducing swelling or edema and may assist in kidney health by flushing out waste and toxins. The diuretic action also helps alleviate urinary tract infections (UTIs) by soothing inflammation in the urinary system. 4. Liver Health Research indicates that cleavers may have hepatoprotective effects, meaning it can protect the liver from damage and aid in its healing process. It stimulates bile production and helps prevent bile duct obstruction, which is essential for proper liver function. 5. Lymphatic System Enhancement Cleavers is known to support the lymphatic system, which plays a critical role in detoxifying the body and transporting lymph fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells. By enhancing lymphatic function, cleavers may help improve overall immune response and reduce congestion. 6. Potential Cancer Benefits Some studies suggest that cleavers extract can inhibit cancer cell growth through mechanisms like apoptosis (programmed cell death). While these findings are promising, more human studies are needed to establish definitive benefits regarding cancer treatment. 7. Traditional Uses for Various Conditions Historically, cleavers has been used for various ailments including skin ulcers, burns, swollen glands, and even gonorrhea—though antibiotics are now recognized as more effective treatments for STDs. Its traditional use also includes promoting kidney health among Native American tribes. Organically Grown Organic foods are grown on land that has been free from the use of synthetic fertilizers, growth regulators, insecticides or herbicides for at least three years. Before a product can be labeled Certified Organic, farmers and processors must meet certain requirements.
