With the philosophy of being one with the Earth, the rice is grown in a natural ecosystem where the worms, insects, and birds live in harmony with the harvest. It was not an easy journey to make the rice varieties resistant to pests and continue to keep the taste. It's been over 40 years since Kangdaein Rice of Life first cultivated organic rice with the goal to protect the food of their land, and their efforts have produced the incredible Kangdaein organic green rice. Organic rice farming In a nutritious and clean organic paddy field, huge amounts of grass grow. Instead of herbicides, natural grass eaters are used, worms. To use this natural method, farmers have to endure the hassle of adjusting the paddy water several times a day. By keeping the belief that healthy food, humans, and nature have coexisted for a long time, this method involves the knowledge of utilizing the day and night, temperature and humidity, even the movement of stars, resulting in healthy rice with extraordinary taste. 남들이 가지 않는 길을 오랜 시간 묵묵히 걸어가는게 결코 쉬운 일은 아니지요. 모두가 수확량 확대 하나에만 초점을 맞추던 배고프던 시절. 거의 모두가 쌀 본래의 맛 보다는 어떻게 해서든 생산이 많이 되는 품종만 재배했던 때가 있었습니다. 농약과 제초제 사용에 문제를 제기하면 주변에서 이상한 눈초리를 주던 시대였죠. 그런 분위기 속에서 강대인 농부와 부인 전양순님은 유기농에 대한 신념으로 만나 연을 맺고 유기농법으로 쌀농사를 짓기 시작했어요. 쉽지는 않았습니다. 주변에서의 냉담과 조롱도 힘들었지요. 병해충에 강하고 맛 좋은 벼 품종을 만들기 위해 몇 해 동안 제대로 된 농사도 못 짓고 고생에 고생을 견뎌야 했습니다. 그렇게 우리 먹거리, 우리 땅을 지키겠다는 신념으로 유기농 쌀 재배한 지 벌써 40년이 넘었어요. 땅과 함께 산다는 철학을 갖고 미꾸라지, 장구벌레 등 여러 곤충과 새들이 어우러져 있는 자연생태계에서 쌀을 키워냅니다. 화학비료와 농약을 전혀 사용하지 않고, 유전자 조작을 하지 않은 전통적인 재래 종자를 재배한 유기농 농산물이에요. 영양이 풍부하고 깨끗한 유기농 논에서는 엄청난 양의 풀이 자라납니다. 제초제 대신 풀 대식가인 우렁이를 활용합니다. 손쉬운 제초제 살포 대신 우렁이로 풀을 잡으려면 하루에도 몇 번씩 논의 물을 조절해야 하는 번거로움을 감내해야 합니다. 건강한 먹거리와 인간, 자연이 공존한다는 신념을 오랫동안 지키며 아침, 저녁, 온도와 습도, 별의 움직임까지 확인하며 쌓아온 노하우가 있기에 탁월한 맛과 건강한 쌀을 생산할 수 있습니다.
