Along with our commitment to the finest natural materials, we adhere to a strict responsible wool assurance policy, and encourage all of our wool growers to treat their flocks humanely at all points of the wool growing and gathering process. Other wool products frequently contain harsh scouring agents, dyes, and chemicals that lead to reactions in sensitive individuals. PlushBeds' wool contains none of these, so that even the most sensitive sleepers can enjoy the pure softness of natural wool bedding. You can rest assured that your pillow will be made of natural materials with no harsh chemicals or irritating detergents used. The PlushBeds Difference: Wool Products You Can Feel Good About Every wool accessory we offer must adhere to strict guidelines for growing, harvesting and processing. You can trust PlushBeds to ensure that every wool product you buy has been handcrafted with care and a sustained commitment to humane treatment and natural processing. Third party laboratory testing of our wool is done on a regular basis to ensure the quality, cleanliness, and integrity of the fiber continues to meet our standards. Through this process we are able to verify that no harmful or unwanted elements are present in the product. Comfort & Purity: Why We Insist on Natural Processing PlushBeds wool is naturally soft, and because we don't chemically treat our wool, even sensitive sleepers can enjoy a peaceful night's rest. Conventional wool suppliers, on the other hand, often resort to: Carbonizing - to remove debris, wool is dipped in strong acids. This can lead to damage of the wool fibers, causing them to lose their natural texture. —At PlushBeds, we use only the cleanest parts of the fleece, which we further clean by hand and wash with a gentle, biodegradable detergent. Chemical Crimping - wool that has been carbonized often loses its natural curl due to damage of the wool fibers. To mask this, suppliers give the wool a chemical "perm" to restore the look of natural wool. —Because we avoid fiber-damaging acids, our wool is soft and naturally curled with no chemicals needed. Bleaching - natural wool fibers are subjected to intensive bleaching that turns the natural ivory into a bright white. While this may make the wool look 'cleaner' it can also result in skin irritation in sensitive individuals. —We don't add unnecessary chemicals, so our wool remains its natural ivory color throughout. Because We Care: Our Objection to Typical Wool Growing Practices PlushBeds' wool suppliers use gentle flock management and humane wool shearing methods. We are meticulously selective when it comes to choosing our suppliers because conventional wool suppliers often rely on techniques we are opposed to. Dipping - to avoid dealing with potential pests, sheep are subjected to pesticide baths that can be harsh and unpleasant. —We find that more holistic methods of pest control produce healthier sheep and higher quality wool. Harmful Shearing - when handled inappropriately, shearing can lead to unnecessary injuries in the flock. —Our suppliers use only gentle shearing methods to ensure the flock remains healthy and unharmed. Mulesing - with this practice, patches of skin are cut off in order to discourage infection. We never use mulesing, period. —We source our wool from breeds of sheep that don't require mulesing to stay healthy. Luxurious comfort you can feel good about: At PlushBeds, we recognize that it's about more than just comfortable bedding. It's about products you can feel good about, from start to finish. That's why we're committed to keeping our products free of harmful chemicals, treating our source flocks humanely, and using sustainable land management practices.
