Easily absorbed into the skin, Cocoa Butter is often used to assist with hydration and moisturising due to its high fatty acid content, it is also a popular ingredient for use on lips to create a protective barrier. Cocoa Butter has a relatively high comedogenic rating and is therefore not recommended for use on acne prone skin for example, as it may clog the pores. It can be melted at 34-39c and used in body creams to thicken them and to help combat dryness and improve skin flexibility and has good heat stability. History and origins of Cocoa Butter Sourced and produced throughout the humid tropic regions of Africa, South America and Asia, Cocoa Butter is obtained from the roasted seed of the Cocoa bean. How is Cocoa Butter made? It has been cold-pressed using the whole bean thus retaining vital antioxidants. This process uses only the heat from the friction caused when pressing the bean, unlike the excessive heat in traditional cocoa butter, which does not protect the antioxidants.
