How to Care for an Orient Pear Tree The Orient Pear Tree can thrive in a variety of soil types (prefers well-drained soil) and requires around 400 chill hours. Orient Peartree is a self-fertile fruit tree, but you will get larger crops when another pollenizer is present. The planting season for this type of tree and shrub is in early spring so it has the whole growing season to establish a strong root system.
