Hosui Pear is an Asian pear developed in Japan in the 1970s. It is an exceptional variety producing high yields of baseball sized, russet coloured fruit. The juicy fruit has a fine texture which is less grainy than many of the other Asian pears. It boasts a rich flavour and exudes a subtle aroma of brandy. Hosui Pear stores well in the refrigerator. The Hosui pear is great eaten fresh, on salads or paired with cheeses on a charcuterie board. Asian pears require a pollination partner of either another Asian pear or a European style pear in order to produce fruit. We recommend thinning the fruit from the trees because they tend to over bear resulting in broken branches or smallish fruit. Pruning should be done in both summer and winter to limit the growth of the tree. Zone 5-9 Show more
