The old central bank - an empirical house built in 1888. In 1831, the Riksbank opened a branch office on Östergatan in a relatively insignificant empirical building from 1812. The business increased, and in 1880, the remaining parts of the block were purchased, and an architectural competition was announced. After several proposals were rejected, John Smedberg’s drawings were approved in 1886. The building was built from 1886-1888. The Riksbank left the building in 1956. It was then relevant to demolish the building, although that never happened. It housed Malmö’s city archives until 1991. In 2001, renovations were underway for new functions and it still stands to this day. In popular speech this house is named 'Pittahuset', translating roughly as 'the dick house'. Why you may ask?
