SEIKO SVAS013 Printer-Integrated Stopwatch, 1/100 sec, 300-Lap Memory, Auto Start
Product Description The SVAS013 is Seiko's printer-integrated stopwatch (プリンター一体型ストップウオッチ), a digital stopwatch with a built-in thermal printer, from Seiko Watch Corporation of Tok yo, Japan. It is built on Seiko's stopwatch caliber S149, and its face is marked "SYSTEM STOPWATCH" and "300 LAP/SPLIT MEMORY". It times in 1/100 second units on a 10-hour counter and shows three rows at once: the split time, the lap time, and either the total elapsed time or the lap time in progress. Seiko's manual describes the S149 as suited to timing large numbers of people at road races and marathons. Times can be printed as soon as they are taken, and each printout begins with the block number, the date and the start time, which Seiko notes makes records easy to sort and keep. Up to 300 lap and split times are kept in memory as numbered blocks, up to 100 blocks, without erasing earlier blocks. Stored times can be recalled while the stopwatch is still timing and printed again later, one block or all blocks at a time. The fastest lap of each block can be recalled. The auto start function starts timing by itself at a preset time of day. With Seiko's connection cord 7504500, sold separately, the SVAS013 can pass its auto start time to Seiko's SVAS011 System Stopwatch (caliber S143), so that stopwatches at the start and at checkpoints begin timing at the same moment. A grip switch and a paper holder for longer roll paper are also available separately. The SVAS013 is not water resistant. Seiko's manual states that it is not a water-resistant watch and that use in direct contact with water should be avoided. Product Specification - Maker: Seiko Watch Corporation, Tokyo, Japan - Product name: SEIKO printer-integrated stopwatch (face marked "SYSTEM STOPWATCH") - Model: SVAS013 - Caliber: S149 - JAN: 4954628451415 - Movement: battery-powered quartz - Accuracy: within +/-15 seconds per month (+/-0.0006%) at normal temperatures of 5 to 35 deg C - Stopwatch: 1/100 second units, 10-hour counter; readout switchable between 1/100 second and 1 second - Display: three rows showing split time, lap time, and total elapsed time or lap time in progress; lap/split count 0 to 999 - Memory: up to 300 lap/split times in up to 100 blocks, each block stored with its start date and time; recall during timing; fastest-lap recall per block; 10-segment memory indicator (30 entries per segment). The block number and start time of each block also use memory, so the memory can fill before 300 lap/split times are stored. Times taken after the memory is full are shown but not stored - Auto start: the stopwatch beeps and starts timing at a preset hour and minute. The auto start time can be transferred to Seiko SVAS011 stopwatches (caliber S143) with the connection cord 7504500 (sold separately) - Clock and calendar: 24-hour time; full auto calendar; ID number OFF or 01 to 99; display contrast adjustable in 10 levels - Printer: built-in thermal printer (model MTP102), thermal serial dot printing, left to right; approx. 1.5 lines per second; 13 digits per line; print mode switch for split time only, or split and lap times - Roll paper: thermal roll paper S-950 (38 mm wide, 2,400 mm or longer, approx. 700 lines per roll) is included. The longer S-951 roll (up to 2,800 lines) needs the paper holder SVAZ007; both are sold separately. Seiko states that only S-950 or S-951 should be used - Printer power: four AA dry batteries (DC 6 V). By Seiko's figures for continuous printing at 24 deg C: approx. 10,000 lines (about 14 rolls) with manganese batteries, approx. 20,000 lines (about 28 rolls) with alkaline batteries - Stopwatch battery: lithium SB-T74, 1 piece; battery-end warning ("BATT" flashes) - Stopwatch battery life: approx. 3 years, based on 3 hours of stopwatch use per day. The battery fitted at the factory is a monitor battery and may run out sooner - Water resistance: none (Seiko's manual: not a water-resistant watch) - Case: plastic. Seiko's manual states that an antibacterial agent is applied to the case surface and that the effect declines over time, depending on the conditions of use - Glass: Hardlex - Case thickness: 29.0 mm - Weight: 211.0 g - Operating temperature: stopwatch -10 to +60 deg C (display temperature range 0 to +50 deg C); printer 0 to 40 deg C - Controls and connections: START/STOP and LAP/SPLIT RESET buttons; STOP-W., A/S SET and TIME mode buttons; 1/100 readout button; RECALL button; lock lever for the START/STOP button; printer power switch, paper advance switch and print mode switch; jack for auto start transfer; jack and selector switch for the grip switch - Options (sold separately): connection cord 7504500, grip switch, paper holder SVAZ007, roll paper S-950 and S-951 - Instruction manual: Seiko publishes the S149 manual on its website in Japanese and in English - Sources: Seiko's SVAS013 product page, Seiko's printer-integrated stopwatch feature page, and the Seiko S149 instruction manual (Japanese and English editions) Usage Seiko's manual labels the two large buttons A and B: A (START/STOP) starts and stops timing; B (LAP/SPLIT, RESET) takes a split and lap while timing and resets the stopwatch once it is stopped. The STOP-W., A/S SET and TIME buttons select the stopwatch, auto start setting and time/calendar modes; 1/100 switches the readout between 1/100 second and 1 second; RECALL calls up and prints stored times. After timing has started, the lock lever can be slid down to lock the START/STOP button so that timing is not stopped by mistake. Printing while timing: turn the printer power switch on before you start, and set the print mode switch to split time only, or to split and lap times. When timing starts, the printer prints the ID number (if set), the block number, the date and the start time, then each time as it is taken. Printing stored times: turn the printer on, open the memory recall display and hold RECALL. Release it when "Print" stops flashing to print the selected block, or keep holding until "Print All" appears to print every block. While stored times are being printed, the stopwatch buttons do not work and the printout cannot be cancelled halfway. In the time/calendar mode, with the stopwatch reset and the printer on, A starts a time-of-day printout, each press of B prints the time of day, and A stops it; these times are not stored in memory. Auto start: press A/S SET, press B and set the minutes and then the hours with A, press B again to enter the time, then press STOP-W. to return to the stopwatch mode. Check that the third row of the display changes to the current time; otherwise auto start does not work. Setting an auto start time clears all stored data. To pass the time to an SVAS011, connect it to the auto start jack with the connection cord, keep the SVAS013 in the stopwatch mode, reset the SVAS011 and clear its memory, then press the SVAS011's mode button. To cancel auto start on the SVAS013, press A/S SET. Memory: to clear it, reset the stopwatch, press RECALL, then hold B for more than 1.5 seconds. All data is erased at once; single blocks cannot be deleted. All stored data is also erased when the stopwatch battery is replaced, so print out anything you want to keep first. Grip switch (optional): connect it and slide the grip switch selector on the right side up. Each press then starts timing or takes a split and lap; buttons A and B do not work while the selector is up. The grip switch cannot stop timing: slide the selector down, then press A to stop and B to reset. Care, as stated in Seiko's manual: keep the SVAS013 away from water. Turn the printer power off when the printer is not in use, do not run the printer without roll paper, and do not pull the paper out or back while it is printing. Put the caps on the jacks when no option is connected. When printing becomes slow, faint or uneven, replace the four AA batteries; Seiko suggests alkaline batteries for use at low temperatures. Keep unused thermal paper in a box in a cool, dry place away from light, do not touch the printing surface, and keep printouts away from strong light, heat, humidity, vinyl chloride film and solvent-based glue or cellophane tape, which can fade or discolor them. Keep the stopwatch away from magnetism, static electricity, strong vibration, dust and chemicals such as solvents, cosmetic sprays and detergents. Seiko gives the normal life of the liquid crystal panel as about 7 years.
