The Oval Lapis Signet Ring is a signet in 925 sterling silver, the flat-faced ring form once used to press a seal into wax, here carrying a polished oval of lapis lazuli instead of a carved crest. The stone shows the deep blue the mineral is named for, broken by small golden flecks of pyrite. The band is smooth and substantial and left entirely plain, so nothing competes with the single piece of color the ring carries. Lapis was ground into the blue pigment of ancient painting and read as a stone of wisdom and truth, worn as a symbol rather than as a religious piece.
