OverviewTwo inline diesel platforms available for the G-Class conversion. The OM612 is a five-cylinder 2.7-litre CDI. The OM648 is an inline-six 3.2-litre CDI — the engine used in the development vehicle, running performance turbo, upgraded injector nozzles, ECU remap, water-cooled intercooler and a 3-inch exhaust. Both are available within the Diesel Drivetrain Kit or as a standalone conversion.IntegrationThe difference between the two in the G-Class engine bay is approximately one cylinder's length of clearance between the block and the cooling package. The OM612 leaves more room for service access; the OM648 fills the bay more completely and returns stronger torque. Either way, engine selection determines the layout of the cooling system, the specification of the engine mounts and the conversion wiring — all three are engine-specific. Both engines are compatible with the ZF8HP70 transmission.Full performance configuration available: upgraded turbocharger, injector nozzles, ECU remap, water-cooled intercooler and 3-inch exhaust.Related systems Diesel Architecture Engineering Conversion Kits Project noteCooling layout, mount configuration and wiring are all engine-specific. The final specification depends on vehicle generation, drivetrain configuration and intended use.
