Their harmonic structure is frequency-dependent, generating more harmonics in the low end while introducing a phase shift in the higher frequencies. In addition, transformers exhibit a form of “memory,” meaning their harmonic response changes according to the audio that has occurred in the preceding milliseconds—an effect that plays a significant role in transient processing. This is where most of the digital emulations fail, even the "official" ones.
