Oxytocin has a molecular formula of C43H66N12O12S2. Oxytocin is involved in a wide range of social and reproductive behaviors. Oxytocin is expressed in both males and females, though it has been best studied in females where it exhibits numerous effects including stimulation of milk ejection (milk letdown), stimulation of uterine smooth muscle contraction at birth, and establishment of maternal behavior.
