This coastal view by the renowned American Impressionist is a Long Island landscape. It was described in a 1929 catalog as picturing, ¡°undulating sand dunes with patches of gorse and shrubbery, the blue sea beyond contrasted against the summer sky with tinted ivory cumulus cloud forms.¡± The Hassams purchased a property at East Hampton and by 1919 had made it their permanent summer residence. The artist converted the barn into a studio and continued to paint there into the 1930s.
