Heavy wind is common in Kansas and makes for blowing snow in winter that often causes a cow to become separated from her calf and make her way home without it. In the case of a los t calf, they are often not able to walk well enough yet on dry ground let alone deep snow to keep up with momma. Their only option is to be rescued.
