In terms of the medium itself and what makes it unique, this is possibly the most important element of watercolour to get to grips with. Everything that we love about watercolour a nd the way it behaves is pretty much down to paint consistency. Getting a feel for how much pigment and water is in your brush, how wet the paper is, and then understanding the interaction between the two is key. Many of you may be doing this instinctually, and it will over time become second nature. However, I really believe having a logical framework laid out from which to understand these two factors, and how they work together, gives us the best possible start in quickly getting to grips with this essential element of watercolour.
