The Lockheed Constellation, nicknamed "Connie," was a propeller-driven, four-engined airliner manufactured by the Lockheed Corporation between 1943 and 1958. It's widely regarded as one of the most beautiful airliner designs ever created. The Constellation's design included a distinctive triple-tail and dolphin-shaped fuselage. It was the first widely used civil airliner with a pressurized cabin, enabling higher altitude flights and improved passenger comfort. Most models were powered by four Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone engines. 856 aircraft were built. Variants included the L-049, L-649, L-749, L-1049 Super Constellation, and L-1649A Starliner. It was used as both a civil airliner and a military and civilian cargo transport. The Constellation was significant for its role in the Berlin and Biafran airlifts and as presidential aircraft for Dwight D. Eisenhower.
