Oranda goldfish characteristics Appearance: Orandas have a short, round, egg-shaped body with large scales. They feature a unique double tail fin, creating a fan-like shape. The wen: The wen, or hood, is the most defining characteristic of the oranda. It typically begins to grow when the fish is 3 to 4 months old and continues to develop until the fish is about 2 to 3 years old. In some cases, the wen can grow to cover the eyes, which may hinder the fish's ability to see and eat. Size: As one of the larger fancy goldfish types, orandas can grow to be 8 to 12 inches long.
