The carving in the centre of our black lacquer panel depicts bamboo a symbol of uprightness and is made from camphor, a wood which is easy to carve, this design being a representat ion of one of the 'Four Nobles', it is surrounded by scrolling dragons and the outer frame is made of fir wood.
