What Are Pantry Moths? The Pantry Moth, otherwise known as the Indian Meal Moth (Plodia interpunctella) is a pest of stored food products. The larvae of the moth feed on cereals, flour, bread, snacks and other dried stored foods. This makes the food inedible and requiring disposal. The first indication of the pest can be the presence of silken webs in such foods. The Pantry Moth larvae are of whitish-yellow colouring, with a brown head, and can crawl through small openings in packaging and cardboard containers. Female moths can lay up to 400 eggs which will hatch in seven days in warm conditions. The larvae will then seek for food stuffs to feed on. Pantry Moths can produce up to eight generations a year. How Does This Trap Help Combat Pantry Moths? Our Pantry Moth Pheromone Trap offers a safe and natural way to trap and catch these male adult Pantry Moths, and so reduce the overall Pantry Moth population. A pheromone lure is placed on the sticky surface inside the trap. This gives off a sex pheromone that attracts the male Pantry moth, which are then caught on the sticky surface inside the trap. The traps can catch high numbers of Pantry Moths. Less moth mating will then be achieved and less egg laying from female moths. Our trap is highly effective, insecticide free and releases no odours. How Do I Set Up The Trap? Our traps are very simple to assemble. Firstly, open the foil sachet and remove the pheromone lure. Next, place the lure inside the trap. It does not matter which way round it goes. Finally, remove the covering paper from the sticky trap and push the trap together. Where Should I Place The Trap? Place traps in food storage areas. The traps can be hung up or placed on a flat surface. To prevent further potential Pantry Moth activity, ensure food storage areas are cleaned on a regular basis and food is stored in plastic, sealable, containers. How Many Traps Do I Need? One trap is sufficient for one particular infestation area. To cover larger areas we suggest one trap every 25m2. When Should I Use The Trap? Pantry Moths can be active all year at indoor temperatures, so you may apply the traps whenever you wish to control infestations. When Will I Need To Replace The Trap? To keep the trap active, replace the first pheromone lure after 6 weeks, and use the second lure provided. The trap is supplied with two lures to give it a minimum of 12 weeks catching time.
